How weather pattern are formed?
The sun plays a big role in the weather because it is the primary source of heat for the earth.
When the sun’s rays hit the earth, they warm up the air and the ground. This warming creates differences in air pressure, which causes wind and other weather patterns.
The temperature of the Earth depends upon its position with respect to the Sun. Weather can change from day to day and over the year with the seasons.
John Dalton (1766-1844) built home-made instruments to record weather observations in 1787 to study temperature, humidity and wind pressure.
Definition of Air
Air is the invisible gas that surrounds us. It is made up of different gases, including oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and others.
The major part of air is nitrogen (about 78%) and oxygen (about 21%), with traces of other gases like carbon dioxide, argon, etc.
It is the most important gas for living things, including plants and animals, to survive. We breathe in air to get oxygen, for proper functioning of our body.
Properties of Air:
- Invisible: Air can not be seen, but can be felt.
- Takes up Space: Air is not visible but occupies space like inflating balloon.
- Weight: Though air seems weightless, but has mass like an inflated volley ball.

Definition of Water
Water is a colourless, tasteless, and odourless chemical substance in liquid form.
It covers about 71% of the Earth’s surface and is an essential part of all living organisms on the earth.
It is found in rivers, lakes, oceans, underground and in glaciers. Only 3% of the total water is fit for drinking.
We use water for various activities including drinking, washing, cooking, agriculture, and industrial purposes.
Properties of Water:
- States of Matter: Water exists in three states: solid (ice), liquid (water), and gas (water vapour).
- Density: Water is denser in its liquid form than as ice. This is why ice floats in water.
What is water cycle?
Water cycle is the process of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. It is the process by which water moves from the ground to the air and back again.
The sun heats up the water in oceans, rivers, and lakes, which turns into water vapour and rises in the air.
The water vapour cools down, and condenses into clouds, which eventually falls back to the ground as precipitation in the form of rain or snow.

Ways to save water
Water is the most vital element of lives on the earth, and thus it is very precious. Due to increasing population and industrialisation, the need for water is continuously growing.
However, the water resources are depleting or getting polluted. It becomes very necessary for us to save water.

World Water Day is celebrated annually on March 22nd. It’s a day to raise awareness about the importance of water and the global water crisis.
It’s a reminder that water is a precious resource that we need to protect.
