Science begins with wonder and curiosity about the world around us.
We encounter many things in everyday life that make us ask questions:
– Why does one side of a puri become thinner than the other?
– Why does a puri puff up in hot oil?
– Why does a phulka swell when placed directly on a flame?
– Why do leaves have different shapes?
– Why are there so many kinds of plants and animals?
– How does the world around us work?
Such questions encourage us to investigate rather than simply accept things as they are.

The chapter makes an important distinction between simply learning scientific facts and learning how to find new facts.
